North Bay’s third lobster hatchery is designed for efficiency throughout the whole system.

Lobster Cube is based on a square grid with each tray holding 100 lobsters and the whole unit holding 2000 lobsters, making it easy for operators to manage. The system operates on a single pump allowing automatic bath or continuous feeding. A new innovation allows for circulating water to be re-oxygenated during all modes of operation.

The new Lobster Cube has two options: Manual and automatic valves.

Between 1 to 10 lobster cubes can be integrated into a single system with no resetting of water flows or individually closing feed cycles. The system currently comes with trays which hold 100 juvenile lobsters each, and North Bay Innovations designed two additional tray variants to accommodate lobsters to a larger size.

North Bay is working on a micro-vivier transport system to link local fishermen with restaurants and specialty markets.

The lobster transport system is also suitable for crabs and other shellfish. Containing a live tracking unit for both location and temperature control, this system allows lobsters to be transported with a normal palette, greatly reducing the cost of shipping to the average fisherman.

What is it?
This project seeks to bring the National Oyster Centre to Ayrshire. The National Oyster Centre will be an Innovation centre for the restoration of the native flat oyster, Ostrea edulis, to our waters, and will consist of three income streams to ensure the facility is economically self-sustainable:

1. A non-profit commercial-scale oyster spat operation
2. An aquaculture research, development and conference facility, leveraging existing research grants and hosting researchers and leaders from centres of marine biology excellence around the UK and Europe
3. An educational visitors centre where visitors of all ages can learn about aquaculture through interactive exhibits

Microgreens are easy to grow, beneficial to our immune system, and with the right conditions, available all year round.

Conventional clear plastic clamshell fruit and vegetable packages provide the perfect environment for growing nutrient rich micro-greens at home. The Easy Grow Microgreen system provides a simple seed and grow mat kit that will transform these plastic containers into a mini-microgreen garden for anyone with a windowsill.

North Bay Innovation Ltd. (previously as Northbay Shellfish Ltd) was a leading partner in a major European research project (Oysterecover 2010-2013) which identified key parameters necessary for restoration efforts for the European Native Flat Oyster (Ostrea edulis.)

This project was the driving force behind multiple long-term restoration projects in England, Scotland, Wales, France, Netherlands and Germany.

These areas likely had extensive oyster beds in the past, but due to overfishing, disease, or environmental factors (or a mix of these) these beds were reduced to small pockets or even ceased to exist.

Today, the single limiting factor in restoring the Ostrea edulis to our waters is obtaining young oysters (spat) which are:

• Disease-free
  Big enough to place in the bed
  Numerous enough to have the critical mass necessary to sustain the bed

North Bay Innovations Ltd.’s goal is to help supply this much-needed spat through development of hatcheries, nurseries and spatting ponds using disease (Bonamia) free stocks in disease-free locations.

North Bay Innovation Ltd. is working with beef farmers in Dumfries and Galloway to create more sustainable market opportunities through a cooperative business.

Our role is to provide a temperature controlled palletised transport system with live GPS tracking and recording.

More affordable than traditional refrigerated lorry transport, the system is designed specifically to connect farmers directly to high-end restaurants and other specialty markets.

Stage: Prototype is in trials.

This is a new crustacea incubator designed for the European and American lobster, but with a small alteration as the unit can be switched between air and water as the circulation generator.

It’s also designed to work with the larvae of spiny lobsters and the Norwegian lobster. The incubator will take the lobsters through their first larval stages before being transferred to The Lobster Cube.

This system is specifically designed to work with The Lobster Cube and minimises system operations by using an air bar to generate micro-vortexes throughout the vessel, minimising contact between larvae.

North Bay’s Taurus Incubator is designed to be suitable the following species:

• European lobster
• American lobster
• Nephrops
• Palinuridae

Stage: Seeking funding for pilot

North Bay has developed a re-usable fruit and vegetable box, available for purchase at grocery stores, that promises to reduce single use plastic in fruit and vegetable packaging.

The material is produced from recycled plastic that’s infused with an anti-viral/anti-bacterial material that’s fully food safe.

The box will be used primarily as a container for self-service shopping for non-prepackaged fruit and vegetables bought by weight or per piece. Each box will normally accommodate 1 commodity (especially if bought by weight), however, boxes can be stacked vertically with space for commodity in each container without squashing of softer items beneath. When empty for carriage and storage, the boxes will stack easily in a small space.
