Northbay Innovations began as a partnership between marine biologist Dennis Gowland and innovation expert Richard Land, who shared a philosophy: To empower sustainable solutions in water and on land. The Company has now expanded under new CEO Kenneth Norton with a fabrication unit in Newton Stewart (Dumfries & Galloway) and an Oyster Hatchery module in Orkney linked to a restoration project there.
Whether developing their own solutions like Lobster Cube and containerised marine hatchery units, or consulting on others’ solutions like the many shellfish hatcheries and research projects around the world that Dennis and Richard have supported, the team at Northbay Innovations is passionate about rolling up our sleeves to create a better world.

With a global population of 7.5 billion and growing, the earth is under stress, and long-term food security is at risk. The aquaculture industry is growing faster than other food sectors and, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN, by 2030, it will provide 60% of all fish consumed. Aquaculture provides high protein food with a low carbon footprint, and as we look to aquaculture to feed the earth’s growing population, we must do everything we can to sustain the health of our oceans and waterways.
